As of today I am officially unemployed. I can’t believe that another calendar season has come and gone already. Yesterday Evan and I finally finished the football DVD and sent it off to get duplicated, everything is ending all at once and I almost don’t know what to do with myself. I decided to finish a drawing I have been working on every now and then for a while. It’s a companion piece to another SVU drawing I did a while back. With Christmas coming up I wish I could just skip the whole thing and watch episodes of SVU. I’ve never been big on the holiday and with my newly found freedom, I want to just relax and enjoy my time. Now that I’m unemployed again, I can’t help but think about what I’m going to do for the next couple months or whether or not to go back to the calendar company. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do, at least now I’ve got the time to do it. Anyway here is my drawing of Mariska Hargitay as detective Olivia Benson.

It was Evans birthday this week, so I decided to draw him a card. We’ve both been reading this series of books by Simpson’s writer John Swartzwelder about a dim-witted private detective. The main character is named Frank burly, so I thought it would be fun to draw him and have him wish Ev a happy birthday. Also it was the day before and I couldn’t think of anything else to do, so this is what he got. I’ve been working on a lot of football stuff lately, so it was nice to get away from that and draw something again.

So I have a piece in the Madison Isthmus this week. It’s for an article about kids not having hobbies these days or something. If you live in Madison, support your local illustrator, pick up a copy of the Isthmus and tell everyone how good the illustrations are in this issue.

If anyone happens to be in Pittsburgh this week, pick up a copy of the Pittsburgh City Paper, I did the cover. The illustration is of a guitar hero game with local icon Donnie Iris. If you have never heard of Donnie Iris, I offer his “Ah Leah” video as proof that he is the man!

Illustration work has dried up lately, so I figured that it was about time to do another promotional illustration. Since Obama has been good to me in the past, I decided to dip into that well one more time.

| A Test |
[Aug. 24th, 2009|10:35 am] |
This summer I’ve really been missing the good times I had helping Jim and Dan make their zombie puppet movie. I’ve always enjoyed making movies with my friends, everything from the first ninja masters movie on up. Like many others, I too love zombie films, when they are done right. Since no one has done a good WWII era Nazi zombie movie, I thought I could give it shot. I made this thirty-second test by myself in one afternoon to help get Ev on board. The goal is to be production ready by next summer. Anyone who wants to help out is more than welcome.

I watched the movie Birth the other day, and after doing so, I immediately watched it again. It’s about a widow who is about to re-marry, when all of the sudden a ten year old boy approaches her saying that he is her dead husband. After watching Transformers 2 it was refreshing to see a film of this caliber. I’ve been listening to the score ever since and now I’m totally pumped to make my own films again.

Now First off I want to say that I had a genuinely fantastic time at the reception Saturday, and I want to thank Jerry and Stephanie from the bottom of my heart for a really spectacular celebration. That being said, I couldn’t help but notice the lack of eligible ladies at the festivities. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing; I got to bond with a lot of my friends that I haven’t seen in a really long time. However, it was undeniably a hotdog hoedown. So when I was thinking of something to draw after a month of editing wedding footage, I couldn’t resist this subject matter. I hope this offends no one; I just wanted to poke a little fun. Thanks again to Jerry and Stephanie for an exceedingly wonderful party and congratulations to the both of you!

Well here is the cover I did for Fort Worth Weekly. They didn't post it online so I can't link to it. Oh well, if anyone is in the Fort Worth area this week pick one up! In other news, I am one busy motherfucker. over the weekend I got this job and one for OC Weekly, plus I had to shoot a wedding. Monday I got a gig for Madison Magazine and Tuesday I got a cover gig for Seven Days, Vermont's newsweekly. Shit, I gotta find time to edit that wedding.

| | THE KNIFE- heartbeats | ] | I haven’t done anything lately. All I’ve done this week is sit flat on my ass, watch SVU season eight and jerk off. I’ve taken lots of walks while the weather has been nice. I think about a lot of things on these walks. I wander down to the river and think about where I’m going from here. After all that thinking, I still don’t know what I’m gonna do. All I can think about is how much I miss Mix Juice Yes! I feel like taking a trip back to Madison, going behind the church and watching the sunset.

So the new computer needed a background. I thought since it will be used mostly for gaming where Ev and I kill lots of things, this was appropriate.

| | Coconut Records: West Coast | ] | Since Allia broke up with me, I’ve pretty much been secluded in the yellow room feeling sorry for myself. For the better part of a week I have been comforting myself with a TV show I’ve loved for some time. This show is of course Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. I’ve blown through five and a half seasons of this brilliant show in a matter of days. I love this show to death. The characters, plotlines, structure are all perfect. It has been a great comforter this week, no matter how low I felt, there was always more SVU. Now as I near the end of my stash, I’m starting to feel like I’m losing another friend. Oh well. If there is something I’ve learned from watching hundreds of rapes and murders, it’s that life is meant for the living. I shouldn’t be wasting so much time in front of the tube, time to get up and get back at it. So here is the beginning of me getting back to work. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Detective Elliot Stabler.

| HULK SMASH… responsibility! |
[Apr. 14th, 2009|09:47 am] |
So a couple of days a go I decided to buy myself a new video game for the times that Ev is too busy to kill zombies with me. While at the CD recycle place I happened upon a game for which I received a demo of at a Gen Con years ago. The title is simply this “The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction”. I thought to myself “seven bucks, sure, why not?” Since purchasing the game I have done little else. I love sandbox games, and this one is a doozy. You get to wander around a city and just break fucking everything, and it’s exactly as awesome as it sounds. I love picking up pedestrians and hurling them at other people, picking up buses and chucking them at helicopters, and best of all smashing absolutely everything. Anyway, because of the game I did almost nothing yesterday, and now I feel that I must return to some sort of work. The bad thing about working from home is that I am constantly tempted to slack off. Only time will tell if I will be able to resist the urge play all day.
In other news, I picked up a couple of magazines for the purpose of redoing the illustrations printed in them, and sending the new drawings back to the art directors to show them why they should have hired me instead. Here is a redo of a Time magazine piece that accompanied an article about toxic assets.
Also one funny thing, I actually had to buy a Playboy for the articles inside.
